
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Officials arrested a woman accused of pepper spraying a person during an attempted robbery at a Staten Island Home Depot last month, authorities said.
Police arrested 52-year-old Hope Wilhelmy on July 7 for the June 20 incident.
According to a criminal complaint, at approximately 6:40 p.m. Wilhelmy was attempting to shoplift at a Home Depot located at 2501 Forest Ave. in Arlington.
Wilhelmy allegedly placed ceiling fans, tile adhesive and a towel in a shopping cart then walked past the registers without paying, officials said.
A struggle ensued when the victim grabbed the cart in an attempt to recover the stolen items.
Wilhelmy then allegedly repeatedly sprayed the victim with pepper spray, police said.
The victim suffered pain, irritation as well as redness on the face.
It is unclear if the victim was an employee.
