Woman killed, girl hurt after 2-car crash on LI: police

LINDENHURST, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A Long Island woman was killed and her 12-year-old passenger was injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday, police said.

Suffolk County police said Kiritkumar Vyas, 56, was driving east on Route 109 around 7:08 a.m. when he "failed to stop at a red light" at Straight Path in Lindenhurst and collided with Giuseppa Giordano, 59.

Giordano was rushed to a local hospital, but he couldn’t be saved. Her young passenger was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Vyas was not injured, police said.

No charges have been reported at this time.
