NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A construction worker at an Upper West Side building died after plunging 15 stories Monday, authorities said.
It happened around 11:25 a.m. at 263 West End Ave., near 72nd Street.
The worker was installing netting around a supported scaffold on the 15th floor when he fell onto the sidewalk shed below, according to Buildings Department spokesperson Ryan Deagan.
Authorities said the worker, who was wearing safety gear, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released at this time.
The Department of Buildings tweeted that inspectors are on the scene investigating the fatal fall and that the department is "conducting a thorough investigation" to determine if "any corners were cut which may have contributed to this tragic worker fall."
The residential building is shrouded in netting, and there is a visible rip around the 15th floor.
An investigation is ongoing.
