PATERSON, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- New Jersey police arrested a man accused of repeatedly stabbing two people in a bias attack early Tuesday morning, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said.
The attack occurred at about 3:48 a.m. near 7-11 Fair Street in Paterson, officials said.
A 35-year-old man who had suffered stab wounds flagged down police officers, according to prosecutors.
Officers then located a 41-year-old woman who had been also been attacked had suffered laceration to her left leg, officials said.
The victims were able to provide police with a description of the attacker and officers were able to track down the suspect, 42-year-old Damian Padilla, and arrest him, authorities said.
Investigators also determined that Padilla made several anti-gay slurs against the man before repeatedly stabbing, officials said.
Padilla was charged with first-degree bias intimidation, second-degree aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
He's due in court on Wednesday.
If convicted of the bias charge, Padilla could face up to 20 years in prison.
