
CORAM, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A man armed with a knife and hammer was arrested in Manhattan after he carjacked a Long Island woman in her driveway early Saturday, police said.
Diorgenis Cruz-Torres, 22, used a hammer to smash the driver’s side window of the Volkswagen Tiguan as she sat in her driveway on Teller Avenue in Coram around 12:30 a.m. and threatened the woman with a knife.
He then forced her out of the car before driving away, police said.
Detectives used the victim's cellphone to locate her car near Sutton Place and East 58th Street in Manhattan.
Cruz-Torres was taken into custody by an NYPD officer. He was then transferred into the custody of Sixth Squad detectives.
He was charged with first-degree robbery and was due to appear in court on Sunday, police said.
