LYNDHURST, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A man was taken into custody Wednesday after a two-day SWAT standoff in which he reportedly used a “flamethrower” and forced a New Jersey neighborhood into lockdown.

The armed suspect surrendered peacefully around 1 p.m. and no shots were fired. Sources previously told NJ.com that he was “armed with weapons.”
Bergen County's regional SWAT team was at the home on Thomas Avenue, between Chase Avenue and Eighth Street, in Lyndhurst since Tuesday afternoon.
Lyndhurst police initially responded to the home around 4:15 p.m. Tuesday and had been “in contact with an individual in that residence since that time,” Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said earlier on Wednesday.
No other people were believed to be inside the home, Musella said.
Police had said there was no threat to the public, and no injuries have been reported.
WCBS-TV obtained video showing the man “discharging a flamethrower” in the area, reportedly during the standoff.
Police said earlier Wednesday that the area remained “locked down” and urged residents to continue sheltering in place.
Later in the day, police said, “Thomas Avenue between Chase Avenue and Eighth Street will remained closed for the foreseeable future, however residents may now access their homes.”
Students living in the area were granted permission to be late for school Wednesday morning because of the standoff.
Police said residents impacted by the ongoing police activity could call (201) 446-2378.
