BASS RIVER, N.J. (1010 WINS) — The man charged with holding a woman captive for nearly a year before she escaped in New Jersey may have other victims, authorities said.
Based on social media and evidence provided by the victim, investigators believe suspect James Parillo, 57, may have held other women captive.
Parillo was arrested on Feb. 7 and charged with first-degree kidnapping, second-degree strangulation, aggravated assault and third-degree criminal restraint.
Authorities say the two met in New Mexico last year and dated for a month before Parillo allegedly assaulted her, taking her cellphone and debit cards and keeping her from contacting her family.
The pair made their way to New Jersey in December, where they rented a room in Bass River Township. Parillo tried to strangle the woman, who managed to break free and run to the nearby gas station.
Cameras captured the moment she ran into the store, dead bolting the door as a way to prevent Parillo from entering.
He is being held at the Burlington County Jail. A court hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday.
