HOPEWELL, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A 34-year-old man was arrested in the stabbing death of both of his parents inside the family’s New Jersey home, prosecutors announced Wednesday.
Craig Williams was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, second-degree desecration of human remains, and third and fourth-degree weapons possession charges.
Additionally, he was charged with hindering apprehension, obstruction as well as tampering with evidence.
At around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, New Jersey State troopers responded to a request for a wellness check at a residence at Tipton Drive in Hopewell where Brenda Williams and Billy Williams Jr., both in their 60s, were found stabbed to death, prosecutors said.
Williams and his parents appeared to have lived together at the home, NJ.com reported.
A relative of the parents requested a well-being check at the home after the couple failed to respond to multiple calls over the weekend and Billy Williams did not show up to work on Monday morning, according to an affidavit.
Craig Williams, who allegedly had blood stains on his clothing, initially told officials that his parents were not home and denied access to the house, according to State Police Investigator J.P. McKay.
The troopers persisted and Williams finally let them inside, directing them to his parent's bedroom where they discovered the couple, authorities said.
Several knives and an ax were recovered from the home, the affidavit stated.
He told troopers that his parents had been inside the house for two days before he was taken into custody, McKay added.
Anyone with information about the killings is asked to contact New Jersey State Police, Bridgeton Station, at 856-451-0101 or the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit at 856-453-0486.
