CORAM, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- A man was shot to death and his wife was pistol-whipped during a Long Island home invasion robbery early Thursday, Suffolk County police said.

Four men stormed into the couple's home on Everglades Lane in Coram around 3:45 a.m. and demanded money before shooting Eric Westby, 46, according to police.
His wife was beaten with a pistol during the robbery, police said.
Westby was transported to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson but did not survive.
His wife was treated for her injuries at an area hospital.
Two other residents of the home were not injured.
At a press conference Thursday, Suffolk police Commissioner Rodney Harrison said, “It looks like a home invasion that went bad, and unfortunately one person was shot and succumbed to his injuries and the other one was beaten with a pistol.”
Police said the men fled the home with money and possibly drugs, and that they may have targeted the residence “for some type of narcotics.”
“It does not appear that they knew these people, but they might have had information from someone else,” Suffolk police Det. Lt. Kevin Beyrer said at the press conference.
Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
