CORAM, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A 35-year-old Albany man was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison on Wednesday for stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death at her Long Island home in 2021, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
Kason Parker stabbed 27-year-old Meghan Kiefer’s face, neck and body 54 times on Oct. 23, 2021 as her horrified friend watched.
Kiefer and her friend drove to Kiefer’s home in Coram, where Parker was also living at the time, to pick up her credit card.
Her friend watched as the former couple argued on the porch before Kiefer walked back to the car and sat in the passenger seat.
Before Kiefer’s friend could drive away, Parker opened the car door, pulled Kiefer out and started stabbing her repeatedly with a knife.
When the friend tried to help Kiefer, who was lying on the ground covered in blood, Parker came after her with the knife, forcing her to leave her friend dying on the ground.
Parker eventually fled in his car, and Kiefer’s friend called 911. Emergency responders rushed her to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Police arrested Parker at the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City the next day after receiving a tip he intended to flee to South Carolina.
He pleaded guilty to murder on May 1.
“Any justice obtained in this case does not allow Ms. Kiefer to see her family again, nor allow her or her family to say goodbye or how much they care about her,” said Suffolk County DA Raymond Tierney. “Justice does, however, allow us to keep a violent individual like this defendant from harming others for a long time. Today, we hope that this sentence brings some form of closure to Ms. Kiefer’s family and loved ones.”
