Man who held woman captive at NJ hotel gets 12 years in prison

PARSIPPANY, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A man who held a woman captive in at gunpoint inside of a New Jersey hotel room in 2021 has been sentenced to 12 years in state prison, officials announced Monday.

On December 24, 2021, Earl Kelly, 38, met with a 19-year-old woman at the Holiday Inn in Parsippany and while armed with a handgun, he “restrained her for a period of time,” the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Kelly was arrested two weeks later by the Edison Police Department on January 7, 2022.

On April 20, Kelly was found guilty of second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and third-degree Criminal Restraint.

He was acquitted on four counts of aggravated sexual assault, two counts of sexual assault, two counts of aggravated criminal sexual contact, one count of criminal sexual contact, one count of armed robbery, and one count of aggravated assault.
