HICKSVILLE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A 17-year-old Nassau student riding a skateboard was critically injured after being struck by an SUV in Hicksville after school Thursday, police said.
The teen was riding his skateboard westbound on Cantiague Lane near Robbins Lane when he was hit around 2:26 p.m. 2012 Honda Pilot, also traveling westbound.
He was taken to a local hospital, and the driver remained at the scene.
The victim is a student with the Boards of Cooperative Educational Services, which provides shared educational programs and services to school districts within the state.
Nassau BOCES spokesperson Angela Marshall said in a statement on Thursday that the crash happened "near our Westbury facility shortly after the student's dismissal from school."
Marshall added that their "thoughts are with the student and the student’s family," referring additional questions to authorities.
The investigation is ongoing.
