KEARNY, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A Newark grand jury indicted a 52-year-old Kearny elementary school teacher on child pornography charges, the DOJ announced Saturday.

Anselmo Girimonte, an Italian teacher for Kearny Public Schools, was arrested in March for sharing images and videos of pre-pubescent children being sexually abused by adults after he allegedly sent child pornography to an undercover police officer.

Between Dec. 27, 2021 and Jan. 17, 2022, Girimonte used a peer-to-peer file sharing service to send the illegal media, according to prosecutors.

When law enforcement executed a search warrant on his cell phone, they found hundreds of images and videos depicting child abuse.

Girimonte was indicted on charges of possession and distribution of child pornography.

He faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted.
