Nolan T. Dickson, 27, is charged with second-degree vehicular homicide and third-degree causing death while operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
The crash, which happened just after 10 a.m. on June 27, 2021, led to the death of Paul Yuro, 82, of Brick.
"Dickson was driving his vehicle recklessly under the influence of intoxicating substances at the time of the collision," Wall police said in a statement.
Further investigation revealed that Dickson's 2019 BMW430i was heading south on State Highway 35 just north of Lakewood Road when he rear-ended a 2019 Honda CRV and then crossed the double yellow line into northbound traffic, striking the 2017 Toyota Camry being driven by Yuro.
Dickson was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. Yuro was taken to the same hospital, with "severe injuries," but later died.
