According to Mecka, 45-year-old Richard Asakiewicz attempted to steal an e-bike, but the owner was able to stop him.

Following his arrest, officials searched Asakiewicz where he found in possession of prescription drugs not believed to be prescribed to him, authorities said.

The estimated value of the bike was $1,800, plus $500 for an extra battery, Mecka said.

Asakiewicz was charged with third-degree theft and fourth-degree possession of prescription drugs. He was taken to Hudson County Correctional Facility.
