NJ man found 'covered in blood' after killing his grandmother, 77: authorities

CARTERET, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A New Jersey man found walking a street "covered in blood" Monday was charged with beating his 77-year-old grandmother to death, authorities said.

Carteret police received a 911 call around 5:30 p.m. reporting a man on Taylor Avenue appeared to be "covered in blood," according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone.

Cyril Lloyd, 26, was found by police and returned to his nearby home, Ciccone and Carteret Police Chief Dennis McFadden said in a statement.

Authorities said officers entered the home and found Lloyd's 77-year-old grandmother, Juanita Quinones, unresponsive with multiple head wounds.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lloyd was arrested without incident and charged with first-degree murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

He was being held at the Middlesex County Jail ahead of a pre-trial detention hearing.
