WOODBURY, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A New Jersey man was sentenced this week to 80 years in prison for beating his parents to death.

A judge handed Ryan E. Coles, 34, the eight-decade sentence Monday after rejecting his insanity defense, NJ.com reported. He’s required to serve 85% of the sentence before he’s eligible for parole.
Coles fatally beat his parents—Edward M. Coles Jr., 58, and Rosemarie Coles, 55—at their home in the Philadelphia suburb of West Deptford in 2016. He then covered their bodies with laundry, leaving behind a bloody crime scene.
Coles, who lived with his parents, told investigators the killings stemmed from arguments about household chores.
Coles was convicted of the murders in March. He reportedly sought a new trial because he was unsatisfied with the representation of his public defender. A judge said he could file an appeal after he was sentenced.
In court, Rosemarie Coles’ sister, Adrienne Porter, spoke of the pain the family has suffered.
“They could not put Rose’s face back together,” Porter said, noting her sister and brother-in-law couldn’t have a viewing because of their injuries. She said Coles “has not shown one ounce of remorse.”
Addressing the court Monday, Coles said he understood “the frustration and rage” the murders have caused.
“I’m not even going to try to defend myself as far as this goes … I love my mom and I love my dad and I wish it never happened,” he said.
