The crash occurred on Thursday around 5 p.m. on Siloam Road near Old Turkey Swamp Road when a 53-year-old Little Egg Harbor Township man driving a pickup truck southbound crossed into the oncoming lane, according to police.
First hitting an SUV, the pickup truck went on to collide head-on with a minivan driven by 42-year-old Denise James of Ocean Township who also had her children in tow—3-year-old Lilyanne and her sons ages 9 and 13.
James was pronounced dead at the scene while the children were all hospitalized. The boys had non-life-threatening injuries while Lilyanne was in critical condition before succumbing to her injuries Monday.
Both the pickup driver and the 34-year-old SUV driver from Jackson remained at the scene, authorities said. Neither suffered serious injuries.
As of Tuesday morning, no charges have been filed.
James’ husband, Lt. Craig James, is a correctional officer. A GoFundMe page was organized by the New Jersey Superior Officers Law Enforcement Association to raise money for the two boys who survived the crash.
Lily James’ organs will be donated, according to the GoFundMe page and Jersey Coast Emergency News.
