JERSEY CITY, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A body found on the side of a highway has been identified as a New Jersey mother of two who was reported missing on Mother's Day.

Norelis Mendoza, 32, was found dead off Route 440 near the Jersey City-Bayonne border on Wednesday morning, the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said.

The Lindenwold woman was last seen leaving her mother's Jersey City home late Saturday.

Her cause of death has not yet been determined, but prosecutors and police consider it to be suspicious.

Mendoza's family members told WABC-7 that they believe she was a domestic violence victim, and the father of her 1-year-old and 3-year-old children may be involved.

They say her body was found near his home, and that he had a history of violence and a restraining order.

Authorities have not named any suspects or made any arrests as of Thursday.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Office of the Hudson County Prosecutor at 201-915-1345 or to leave an anonymous tip.
