
HAVERSTRAW, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — An off-duty NYPD officer was severely injured when she crashed her SUV into a tree on the Palisades Interstate Parkway, splitting the car in two and killing her husband.
The deadly crash happened Sunday around 3 a.m. when the northbound 2021 Hyundai SUV veered off the road near Exit 13 in Haverstraw and struck a tree, the New York State Police said.
Bernadine Ramtahal-Thomas, 34, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Her husband, Chevy Thomas, 36, of Maybrook, who was a passenger in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.
State Police are leading an investigation into the deadly accident. The cause wasn't immediately clear.

The crash was the second fatal accident on the Palisades Parkway in three days, after a man was killed Friday when his vehicle ran off the road in Stony Point.
