BABYLON, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A Long Island man was sentenced to 16 years to life in prison for a residential burglary committed in 2022 while on parole for another crime, prosecutors said Monday.

According to the evidence, Jose Osorio, 58, of Babylon, broke into a home in Babylon through a basement window and stole numerous items on May, 4, 2022.

One of the items he stole, a vehicle key fob, had an Apple AirTag, which allowed the Suffolk County police to track its location to the Osorio's address.

Osorio was eventually arrested at a local pawn shop, where he was attempting to sell the burglary proceeds.

Prosecutors said investigators recovered additional items from the burglary during a search of Osorio’s home.

Osorio’s criminal history includes two prior violent felony convictions, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said.

In 1995, he was convicted of second-degree burglary and sentenced to four to eight years in prison. In 2003, he was convicted of second-degree attempted burglary and sentenced to 12 years to life in prison.

Osorio was released on parole supervision in 2019.

In November, he pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary .

"This defendant is a repeat offender whose history of getting caught, doing time in prison, and then being released on parole did not deter him from committing yet another home burglary," said District Attorney Raymond Tierney.
