NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — State police issued more than 32,900 tickets for driving under the influence during a holiday crackdown that ran from Dec. 14 through New Year’s Day, according to Gov. Kathy Hochul.

In addition to the tickets, 453 drivers were arrested and 4,417 crashes took place due to intoxicated driving that injured 528 people, officials said.

"I thank the State Police and local law enforcement for their continued efforts to get dangerous drivers off the roads and protect all New Yorkers," said Hochul.  "We will not stand for the preventable tragedies that are caused by impaired and reckless drivers, and we will continue our aggressive enforcement measures to make the roads safe for all who use them."

Police used sobriety checkpoints and increased patrols as part of the crack down.

They also targeted speeding and aggressive drivers as well as distracted motorists using cell phones behind the wheel.

Officers issued 11,305 speeding tickets, 912 distracted driving tickets and 916 seatbelt violations during this time.
