MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A 15-year-old girl admitted Tuesday to fatally stabbing a Mount Vernon cheerleader, prosecutors announced.

The teen, who was not named because of her age, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the stabbing death of 16-year-old Kayla Green after an April 8 "school celebration turned violent," Westchester County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah said.

Green, a sophomore at Mount Vernon High School, was stabbed in the abdomen just before 4 p.m. on Gramatan Avenue in Mount Vernon, according to prosecutors. She was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi and pronounced dead.

Mount Vernon Police Department arrested the 15-year-old that evening in Dobbs Ferry.

The fight, which was captured on several cell phone videos, began after a parade and City Hall celebration honoring the Mount Vernon High School boys basketball team for its state championship and undefeated season, Lohud.com reported.

Green, a captain of the high school's junior varsity cheerleading team, and her friend, Mainece Simpson, were reportedly in a car when the 15-year-old, a member of an independent cheerleading club, opened the back door.

As police responded to the scene, Simpson got out and was attacked by several girls while a police officer pushed the 15-year-old to the side, according to the report. She returned to the melee, clutching a knife, and appeared to stab Simpson twice, who was also assaulted by someone wielding a large stick.

Green then stepped out of the car and joined the crowd, being shoved out of the way at first before diving back in. She was hit twice on the side of the head by another girl. The 15-year-old then stabbed Green.

Prosecutors said that the teen was charged for the other stabbing, but that those charges were dropped at her Tuesday plea due to her age and in compliance with state law.

She's scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 24.

"Today, the defendant has taken responsibility for ending the life of Kayla Green and now faces consequences for this tragic and devastating incident," Rocah said in a statement. "We hope the families of all impacted by this senseless violence can begin the journey to healing. My Office will continue to support them in any way that we can."
