NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A man who robbed a Midtown Manhattan smoke shop last week returned to the store Sunday to get a backpack he left behind—and stabbed a worker in the gut when he wouldn’t hand it over, police said.
The thief targeted Cannabis Gifts at Eighth Avenue and W. 39th Street last Wednesday, but workers recognized him from prior thefts and managed to grab ahold of his backpack as he was fleeing, according to police.
The crook returned to the store around 2:40 p.m. Sunday and told workers to give him back his bag, according to the New York Post.
The workers scoffed at the brazen demand, so he stabbed one of them—a 50-year-old man—in the stomach and fled, police said.
The wounded worker was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue in stable condition.
The suspect, who was wearing a red hoodie, fled on foot, police said.
No arrests had been reported as of Monday.
