
BAY SHORE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- Detectives on Long Island are investigating after a box truck crash that seriously injured a jogger Monday afternoon.
A 32-year-old man was driving a 2019 International box truck southbound on 5th Avenue in Bay Shore when a pedestrian attempted to jog from east to west across the road just after 4 p.m., police said.
Just after 4 p.m., the truck swerved to avoid the jogger, but struck him in front of 1724 5th Ave., officials said.
The pedestrian, who has not yet been identified by police, was transported via ambulance to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of serious physical injuries.
The truck driver was not injured.
Motor Carrier Safety Section officers responded to the scene and completed a safety inspection of the truck.
