LIRR train fatally strikes 'unauthorized' person on tracks

NEW HYDE PARK, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- A Long Island Rail Road train fatally struck a person on the tracks on Monday morning, according to authorities.

Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police were notified just after 9:15 a.m. that an eastbound train "had come into contact" with an "unauthorized" person who was on the tracks at the New Hyde Park station, according to railroad spokesman David Steckel.

Officials did not released the person's name and an investigation remains ongoing.
