HICKSVLLE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- Police arrested a man who pistol-whipped another man unconscious during a gunpoint robbery on a Long Island street last month.

According to officials, at 9:30pm on Monday, July 10, a 71-year-old man was walking on Jonathon Avenue in Hicksville, when Henry Romero, 20, began walking toward him.

Romero then pointed a firearm at the victim and demanded his money, police said. When the victim stated he didn’t have any money, Romero struck him multiple times in the head causing him to lose consciousness.

When the victim awoke, he had an actively bleeding nose and suffered substantial pain to his face, neck, shoulders, back and right hip, authorities said.

The victim was transported to a local area hospital for treatment.

Subsequent to the investigation, detectives located Romero at his residence on Tuesday, August 1, and placed him under arrest without incident.

Romero is charged with assault and attempted robbery.

He will be arraigned on Wednesday in Hempstead.
