Man charged for assaulting officers following arrest on LI

ELMONT, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- A man was charged for assaulting police officers following his arrest on Long Island on Monday night, authorities said.

Officers were called to 181 South Franklin Ave. in Valley Stream for a suspicious person.

After a thorough investigation David Owusu, 31, was arrested for Criminal Trespass, detectives said.

While in custody at the Fifth precinct in Elmont, Owusu punched a police officer in the head at about 10:30 pm, police said.

Officers were able to restrain Owusu, who was then transported to a local hospital for treatment of a minor laceration above his eye.

While being treated at the hospital, Owusu punched another officer in the head.

Both officers who sustained injuries during the course of the arrest were transported to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries.

Owusu was charged with two counts of assault and criminal trespass.
