FARMINGVILLE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- Police arrested a man on Long Island with an active warrant in Pennsylvania over the weekend after he was stopped for speeding, authorities said Wednesday.
Suffolk County Deputy Sheriffs arrested Jason Rodriguez, 21, as a fugitive in Pennsylvania at approximately 4:23 a.m. on July 2, officials said.
Rodriguez was stopped on Nichols Road in Farmingville for speeding, and a computer check revealed that Rodriguez had an active warrant out of Wilkes-Barre, PA, for unlawful imprisonment, simple assault, and harassment, police said.
Authorities allege that Rodriguez forced his way into his girlfriend’s house, struck her with a belt, and held her captive for 20 hours.
He was arraigned at Suffolk County First District Court in Islip on Sunday and is pending extradition to Pennsylvania.
"Car stops are dangerous because Deputies never know who they will discover behind the wheel," Suffolk County Sheriff Dr. Errol D. Toulon, Jr. said. "In this case, the driver was wanted for crimes committed out-of-state and will now be sent back to Pennsylvania to face justice for his actions. I thank these Deputy Sheriffs for their diligence in protecting Suffolk County residents."
