Pedestrian, 61, walking on LI street struck, killed by vehicle

COPIAGUE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- Suffolk County detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian on Long Island overnight, authorities said.

According to police, at approximately 8 p.m. a 61-year-old man was walking westbound across Great Neck Road, near Oak Street in Copiague when he was struck by a southbound 2020 Toyota Corolla.

The victim, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip where he was pronounced dead officials said.

The 34-year-old man driving the Toyota was not injured.

The Toyota was impounded for a safety check.

An investigation is ongoing.
