Wrong-way driver kills self, 2nd driver in LIE crash

HOLTSVILLE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- Suffolk County police are investigating a car crash caused by a wrong-way driver that killed him and another driver on Long Island early Thursday morning.

According to officials, at 12:43 a.m. Thomas Raimondo was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on the westbound Long Island Expressway between Exits 62 and 63 in Holtsville, when he crashed the vehicle head-on into a 2005 Acura, driven by Jose Ferreira.

Raimondo, 61, and Ferreira, 32, were pronounced dead at the scene by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

There were no passengers in either cars, authorities said.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is ongoing.
