NEWARK (1010 WINS) -- A TSA agent jumped into action to save a two-month-old boy who wasn’t breathing at a security checkpoint at Newark Airport, new video shows.
The video released Thursday by the TSA shows officer Cecilia Morales dashing over a checkpoint conveyor belt to perform the Heimlich maneuver on the infant.
Morales said she heard screams from travelers when the child’s mother realized he wasn’t breathing in his carrier.

Morales, a trained EMT from Newark, shouted instructions to the mother, “but she was so nervous, and I knew if I didn’t get over there, it wasn’t going to be a good outcome.”
“I jumped over the checkpoint conveyor belt rollers, and she gave me the baby,” Morales said in a press release. “I performed the infant Heimlich maneuver on him.”
After two attempts, the boy started breathing again. A pediatric EMT arrived a short time later and gave him oxygen.

“I saw the video afterward,” Morales said. “It was the first time I’ve ever seen myself in action, saving a life. It was mind-blowing to watch. I felt that my training and experience just took over.”
Thomas Carter, the TSA’s federal security director for New Jersey, said Morales, who joined the agency in October, is a life-saver after just two months on the job.
“Officer Morales’s quick reaction and actions helped ensure that this family will have a happy holiday season. Her actions were inspiring,” Carter said.
