NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD arrested a man Friday who allegedly threw an object at an NYPD officer's head inside a Bronx subway station, leaving the cop hospitalized.
Sergio Santiago, 41, was taken into custody, police said, in connection with the attack around 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Fordham Road B/D station in Fordham Heights.
Two uniformed officers approached Santiago, who was the suspect in an earlier assault in the 44th Precinct, according to police.
As they engaged him, he hurled a blunt object at the officer’s head and fled on foot, police said.
The object struck the officer, who was left with a non-life-threatening head laceration, police said. He was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition.
