DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy didn't get a chance to attend the press conference to announce Dak Prescott's contract extension earlier this month, but he sure was excited to get his franchise quarterback locked up.
“It’s a whole lot easier to do cartwheels in the sand," McCarthy said when he heard that the contract had been finalized. "Dak is the keystone of this team. I'm excited about year two on offense. In a lot of ways, we didn't feel like we got to have a year one."
As for who will back up Prescott this season with Andy Dalton departing to Chicago in free agency, McCarthy says they have spoken to some veterans but nothing has materialized yet. But McCarthy is pleased with the leadership that will still be coming from the quarterback room with Prescott expected to back to full health.
"His presence and natural leadership ability is something that will continue to grow," McCarthy said. "You'll see that in the locker room."
