DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Cowboys, who currently hold the #2 seed in the NFC playoff race, had five players named to the Pro Bowl on Wednesday night.

It’s a nice accomplishment for a team that had zero players named to the Pro Bowl just a year ago.

Here are the Cowboys that were announced on Wednesday:

P Bryan Anger (1st)

CB Trevon Diggs (1st)

OG Zack Martin (7th)

LB Micah Parsons (1st)

OT Tyron Smith (8th)

Tyron Smith’s eighth career Pro Bowl selection ties him with Emmitt Smith for the sixth-most selections in franchise history.

Rookie LB Micah Parsons and second-year CB Trevon Diggs were selected for their first Pro Bowls, and figure to be in the running for Defensive Player of the Year.

Head coach Mike McCarthy praised the dynamic duo in his Wednesday morning press conference.

“They’re having Pro Bowl seasons,” McCarthy said. “I think their numbers reflect that.”

McCarthy shuddered at the idea of having to coach against the two.

“If I was coaching against them, they definitely would be on my profile tape, and it would have a target on them on the weekly, and I think that represents the type of players that they both are.”

While the selections are nice, all of the players selected would hope they aren’t playing in the game, since it would mean they fell short of their ultimate goal. Since 2010 teams players participating in the Super Bowl (which takes place the week after the Pro Bowl) are not eligible to play in the game.
