"It's a really special moment here. Thank you to Dallas for offering me this. ... I never imagined this happening. I was only dreaming of playing in the NBA. Now I can sign an extension with the Dallas Mavericks for five more years, which I never doubted [that I would do]. I always wanted to sign this [contract]," Doncic said. "I really appreciate the Dallas Mavericks. ... Thank you for this. I'm really happy."
Mavs owner Mark Cuban, general manager Nico Harrison, head coach Jason Kidd, assistant general manager Michael Finley, director of player health and performance Casey Smith and the greatest player in franchise history Dirk Nowitzki all traveled to Slovenia to see Doncic sign his new contract, and were on hand for the presser.
"When we drafted Luka in 2018, we had an inkling he was good, but we never imagined he was this good. That's the culmination of a lot of hard work [to become] the NBA player he is, the incredible professional he is. He worked incredibly hard to be a part of the community, to become part of the team. I can't tell you how many kids he would open up to [when we traveled to each NBA city] and share his heart with. Just all the things that you look for and just tell you what a great human being Luka truly is," Cuban said.
"To be able to announce that he signed an extension with the Dallas Mavericks. … We want him to have the same type of Hall of Fame career if not more than Dirk."
Cuban and Doncic also had an opportunity to speak on the team's offseason thus far, and much more. You can read more or watch the enter media session below.
