The University of Memphis is retaining Penny Hardaway, who has $6-Million Dollars left on his contract.

University of Memphis Announces Coach Hardaway Will Return Next Season
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis Senior Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Ed Scott, Ph.D., announced today that head men's basketball coach Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway will return to lead the Tigers program next season.
"Penny is deeply committed to this program and to the University of Memphis," said Scott. "We have had productive conversations about the future of Memphis Basketball and the steps necessary to position our program to compete at a high level. I appreciate Penny's willingness to evaluate every aspect of the program and make the adjustments needed to achieve our ultimate goal of postseason success."
As part of those efforts, Hardaway announced structural changes within the men's basketball program. Assistant coaches Mike Davis, Jermaine Johnson and Roy Rogers, along with strength and conditioning coach Todd Forcier, will not be retained next season.
"I'm grateful for the work that Mike, Jermaine, Roy and Todd have put into this program and the support they've provided to our student-athletes," said Hardaway. "As we look ahead, it's important that we continue to evaluate our program and make the adjustments necessary to compete at the highest level. Our focus is on building a staff and culture that will help Memphis Basketball reach the standard that our university, our fans and our city expect."
The men's basketball team concluded the 2025-26 season with a 13-19 overall record, including an 8-10 mark in the American Conference.
Hardaway is under contract with the University of Memphis through the 2027-28 season.
