The Memphis Grizzlies fell at home Wednesday night, dropping a matchup with the Portland Trail Blazers at FedExForum despite a strong effort against a hot shooting Portland squad.
The Trail Blazers were led by a huge performance from Jrue Holiday, who poured in 35 points while knocking down eight three-pointers and dishing out 11 assists to pace Portland’s offense. Jerami Grant added 30 points and nine rebounds, while Robert Williams III dominated inside with 20 points and 11 rebounds as the Blazers improved to 30-33 on the season.
Portland’s balanced attack and efficient shooting proved difficult for Memphis to slow down throughout the night. Holiday controlled the tempo from the perimeter while Grant consistently attacked the basket, helping the Blazers maintain control during key stretches of the game.
Memphis battled throughout the contest in front of a crowd of 14,661 at FedExForum, but Portland’s offensive firepower and interior presence ultimately made the difference in the 2-hour and 17-minute matchup.
The loss sends the Grizzlies back to the drawing board as they prepare for their next opportunity at home.
Memphis returns to action Saturday night when the Grizzlies host the Los Angeles Clippers at FedExForum. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m. on 92.9 FM ESPN.
