Pens trade 3rd rounder for veteran RW Reilly Smith

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – First reported by NHL Network’s Kevin Weekes, the Penguins are trading their third-round pick in 2024 for 32-year-old forward Reilly Smith.

The left-shot wing is coming off a near career-high 26 goals and near-career high 56 points as a plus 11 with the Stanley Cup Champion Golden Knights. Smith has 473 points (200 goals) in 764 career games. In 88 career playoff games, 18 goals and 48 assists and a plus 24. Last season 14 points in 22 games with a pair of power play goals including a game-winner.

An Ontario native, the 6’1”, 185 pounder was Dallas’ third round pick in 2009. He started his career with the Stars and also played for Boston and Florida. His cap hit for this year and next is $5 million per season. The Pens will still have their third round pick for this season, again the trade is for next season's third rounder.
