
PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Pirates starting first baseman Colin Moran (left groin injury May 8) and utility infielder/outfielder Phillip Evans (left hamstring May 12) each started their rehab in AAA Tuesday night.
The lefty-hitting Moran was 0 for 2 with a strikeout while the right-handed hitting Evans was 1 for 2 with a single. Neither expected to join the Pirates for the series against Miami.
Yahure hurting
The most Major League ready of the players the Pirates got in return for Jameson Taillon is likely going on the injured list. Righty Miguel Yajure, also the Pirates best pitching prospect in AAA, is dealing with some right elbow discomfort.
The 23- year-old made a pair of starts for the Pirates this season. April 21 against Detroit, Yajure went 4.1 innings allowing 4 runs on 4 hits with 4 strikeouts. May 14, Yajure went 5 scoreless innings against the Giants allowing only a hit, a walk and struck out 4.
With Indianapolis this year, Yajure made 3 starts totaling 17 innings, allowing 12 hits, 7 runs, 5 walks and 17 strikeouts for a 3.71 ERA and a 1-1 record.
Kranick Krisp
Making his first start at AAA, Max Kranick went 5 innings-4 hits, a run with no walks and 6 strikeouts. The run coming on a solo homer. The 6’3” righty was 1-0 with a 4.02 ERA in AA with 16 strikeouts to 2 walks in 15.2 innings.
Kranick, 23, was an 11th round pick in 2016.
Kyle Keller got the win for Indy striking out 5 in 2 innings. Tyler Bashlor his second save getting all three outs in the 9th via strikeout.
Roansy stars again
AA starter Roansy Contreras bounced back from the only start this year where he gave up runs to pitch 6 scoreless innings on Tuesday against the Flying Squirrels. The right-hander, also acquired in the Taillon trade, struck out 8 and walked none. On the season, the 21-year-old has pitched 27.2 innings, allowing 5 runs with 6 walks and 42 strikeouts.
1st rounder struggles
2019 first round pick Quinn Priester suffered his 3rd loss of the season after 4-innings, 8-hits, 5-runs, 1-walk, 3-strikeouts at High A Greensboro.
Priester was coming off 10 consecutive scoreless innings and had lowered his ERA to 3.18. The 20-year-old’s ERA is now 4.71 after 5 starts.
Bradenton hot
The Low A Marauders scored 4 in the 9th for a 7th consecutive win. Bradenton pitchers combined to strike out 13 Blue Jays. Catcher Endy Rodriguez drove in his 14th run. Second baseman Jase Bowen with his 18th RBI and has hits in 15 of his last 19 games.
