PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – The Pirates pick a 4-star Penn State football player Monday in the MLB Draft. Lonnie White, Junior has a scholarship with the Nittany Lions to play baseball and football and drafted as the Bucs competitive balance pick in the second round.

Ranked as the 72nd best player entering the draft, the Malvern Prep grad from Coatesville as great speed according to MLB.com and an above average fielder.  Strong and physical with his defense ahead of his offense but said to have a ‘huge ceiling’ by MLB.com experts, especially when it comes to power potential.

The 6’3”, 212 pound White, 18-years-old, not only was a star wide receiver and centerfielder, he also played basketball in high school.  The slot value for the pick is just over a million dollars.  White grew up a Penn State fan and called it his dream school.

Pirates selected New Jersey high school left-handed pitcher Anthony Solometo with the earlier pick in the second round.  Louisville catcher Henry Davis went number one overall on Sunday.
