MLB Insider reported the story first, saying the contract is an eight-year deal worth $70 million.

The deal also includes a club option for a ninth season.

Hayes is in the Opening Day lineup after missing the last week of Spring Training with an ankle sprain.

The Pirates have reportedly attempted to sign Hayes with Audacy baseball insider Jon Heyman reporting a couple weeks ago that there was “no traction” on an extension.

Dealing with a wrist injury for a large portion of the 2021 season, Hayes batted .257 with six home runs, 38 RBI 93 hits and nine stolen bases with an OPS of .689.

Hayes is also known for his glove, having one of the better infield gloves in baseball.
