PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Gathering a loose puck and burying it past Kevin Lankinen, Sidney Crosby put the Pens up 3-1 in the second period Tuesday night against Vancouver and passed the greatest Penguin for most combined points in the regular season and postseason.

Crosby now has 1,896 points, one better than Mario Lemieux. Number three on the list is Evgeni Malkin with 1,536, and counting.

“Took me probably 500 more games, been here for a long time, fortunate to play with some great players,” Crosby said after a 5-2 win over the Canucks. “That’s how I look at it.”

Crosby said Lemieux has meant so much to him going back to the beginning when his family took him in as an 18-year-old, first overall pick in the draft. Crosby said Mario and his family kept it as normal as possible for him, given the situation.

“Then to be able to learn from someone like him who has been through so much to play at the level that he did and went through the adversity that he did,” Crosby said. “His family as a whole was so important. I don’t know if I can put into words how much it means, but it’s meant a lot. I cherish that relationship, his family and everything they’ve done for me.”
