During his show last week, Pirates Manager Derek Shelton said he’d like to see General Manager Ben Cherington add a bat to the team’s lineup before the trade deadline.
After winning 9 of their last 11, the Pirates have shown that they are a team worth adding to.
Asked if he thinks Cherington will be aggressive before the trade deadline, Shelton told Paul Zeise that he thinks “Ben is being aggressive now.”
While its nice to point out and say the Pirates need to add a better bat to their lineup, the way baseball is set up now, it’s not that easy.
With three Wild Card teams, only two teams are truly out of it, the Rockies and the Marlins.
That means 13 of the 15 teams are likely looking to add.
“There’s so many teams in the race and very close with 62 games left and everybody is looking and everybody is looking for one thing, offense,” said Shelton.
Shelton adds that some teams are likely waiting until the deadline to pull the trigger on whether to buy or sell.
