Really, would be my first reaction. Why, would be the second.
Let’s just entertain the thought of picking up Mayfield as a free agent, let’s say he’ll play for veteran minimum to make it affordable.
Is he even better than Mitch Trubisky? Trubisky a second overall pick while Baker was number one overall.

So tell me how Mayfield is an upgrade?
It is because Mayfield won one playoff game & he was good against the Steelers. Trubisky would have won one too (threw for 303 yds with no INT) if his kicker had made a 43-yard field goal against the eventual World Champion Eagles.
Yes, Mayfield wears his emotions on his sleeve. It’s cool for fans to see his fist pumps & celebrations on the field. Don’t you get the idea there were issues with Baker and his teammates? Never heard of those issues with Trubisky, even when the heat was on him by a rabid fan base in Chicago. He was mentally tough. Teammate James Daniels swears by him.
Any doubt the Browns had the better head coach, coaching staff and the better talent?
Baker is coming off an injury, Trubisky is coming off a redshirt year where he got to watch and work with Pro Bowl QB Josh Allen, coached by offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, who was hired as the Giants new head coach.
