Mullsy: New T.J. Watt deal is bad business for Steelers

The Steelers have extended edge rusher T.J. Watt another three years which means he'll be here through the 2028 season and Chris Mueller doesn’t like it.

“(The Steelers) caved,” said Mueller. “Everybody who said they were going to cave was right. They absolutely bent the knee to the player here.”

Mullsy adds Watt is arguably coming off the worst season of his career since he was a rookie and now, he’s past the age of 30.

Watt had two sacks against the Eagle in Week 15, the only two he had in the last five games of the season.

He was also a ghost in the playoff game against the Ravens in Baltimore.

“T.J. Watt is one of the best Steelers I’ve ever seen, there’s no doubt, but it’s a cold, hard business here and while I don’t begrudge a player like T.J. Watt pursuing every dime, I will absolutely evaluate the team’s decision to give in to what he wanted.”

Mullsy adds the bad business the Browns did with Myles Garrett has now led to the Steelers with engaging in bad business of their own.

Watt had 19 sacks in 2023, 11.5 last year.

Mullsy is worried that production will continue to go down, now at a premium price.
