PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – On the surface, it’s the loss of a back-up linebacker, but Robert Spillane had grown into more than that by the end of last season. Tuesday, he agreed to a reported two-year deal worth as much as $9 million with Las Vegas.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin had praised Spillane for being a player on the rise. Spillane was the Steelers leading tackler in the last four games of 2022 totaling 36 tackles (two TFL) in the last four games, all starts. He played 100% of the snaps in those games.

Having just turned 27, the undrafted linebacker out of Western Michigan played 54 games with the Steelers starting 16 with a memorable Pick 6 against Lamar Jackson and the Ravens in Baltimore in 2020.

Steelers currently have two middle linebackers on the roster with experience-Myles Jack ($11.25 million) who dealt with a lingering groin issue most of the second half of last year. Chapelle Russell who played 27 games in the NFL between Tampa Bay and Jacksonville with 18 tackles and Mark Robinson ($870,000), who three years ago was a running back in college.
