Several sources report it’s a five-year deal. It's also being reported the four-year extension is worth $18.4 million a year, with $36 million guaranteed at signing.

"We are very excited to sign Minkah to a new five-year contract," said Steelers General Manager Omar Khan on Steelers.com. "Minkah is one of the top safeties in the NFL and we are thrilled he will be in Pittsburgh through at least the next five years. When we traded for him, we knew he was going to be an integral part of our defense and we look forward to that continuing as we prepare for the upcoming season."

It's Kahn's first big signing since taking over as General Manager.

The massive contract makes Fitzpatrick the highest-paid safety in the NFL.

Fitzpatrick’s agents WME Sports confirmed the deal with ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

"I am very excited," said Fitzpatrick minutes after signing the contract. "I am still kind of in shock right now. It's a blessing. I am really excited. It's just the beginning. I am appreciative. I am thankful. Now I just want to keep on chopping.

"I love the history here. What it stands for. The standard we are held to. The standard Coach (Mike) Tomlin holds us to, on the field and off the field. The standard of winning playoff games, division titles and championship games."

Many were suspecting that Fitzpatrick would be a “hold-in” during Training Camp, similar to linebacker T.J. Watt last season.

Fitzpatrick was at Steelers OTAs and the league-required minicamp last week.

Taken 11th overall by the Miami Dolphins in the 2018 draft, the Steelers gave up a first round pick in 2019 to acquire Fitzpatrick.

The All-Pro safety has 352 total tackles over four seasons, with 13 interceptions, four forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries and three touchdowns.
