PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – The notes and quotes from the Steelers 20-17 loss to Dallas Sunday night including losing ‘another game we’re supposed to win’. Plus, why the Steelers used a time out on the last Dallas play. Dak talks Greenfield and giving Mike McCarthy a gift he never before received. A milestone for TJ Watt and Roman Wilson can’t get on the field.

4th down TO

With 26 seconds left, Dallas called a time out for the fourth-and-goal play from the four-yard line. As the Cowboys then broke the huddle, Mike Tomlin called his final time out instead of keeping it for a potential need if the Cowboys scored, which obviously they did.

“You know, just trying to win the game,” Tomlin explained. “Wanted to gather some information, see the structure they came out in, get ourselves in the right call. It was a fourth-down play. No hesitation about that. We had an opportunity to win that game right there.
Forget what comes after.”

McCarthy game ball

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott said after the game he loves playing for Mike McCarthy. He added his coach also loves where he is from. Prescott has heard so much about it he took a tour of Greenfield to see the places that McCarthy references. He spent time at McCarthy’s parents house and some of his old stomping grounds. Prescott says he has a better picture of it all now.

“It was important for us to come out and get this win,” Prescott said. “It meant a lot to be able to deliver a game ball, not knowing it was his first.”

It was McCarthy’s first ever win in Pittsburgh, but said it’s about the players, not him. McCarthy said it was a great game that he would have paid to watch.

“I was saying before the game started, we are not going to forget this one,” Prescott said. “I kept saying let’s make this one to remember. For us to stay resilient, win the game in two-minute here in his home town. He deserves it.”

Quotes

“That’s another game we’re supposed to win.”
Safety DeShon Elliott

“We got to play simple defense. We got a lot of talent in the secondary. We just got to simply the play call and allow us to play fast.”
Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick

“We got to bounce back quick, I mean obviously we lost two in a row. We got to go to Vegas next weekend and put it together. There is no excuse not to.”
TE Pat Freiermuth

“They got us on the last play. We are bitter about it, but there is nothing we can do now but work on it and learn from it.”
Corner Joey Porter, Junior

“We all got to be on the same page and we weren’t. Those two touchdowns are on me, without those touchdowns we win the game. I didn’t make the ones that counted.”
Safety DeShon Elliott

“This is Steelers football. We will be fine. We just have to believe in each other. It’s not the end of the world, but it definitely hurts.”
TE Connor Heyward

“We just need to move forward and put out a better product.”
Captain TJ Watt

“At, what time is it, two-o’clock in the morning, I don’t think I can assess anything right now. Let’s get some rest, break down film and move on to Vegas.”
Captain Cam Heyward

Century Watt

With his half-sack in the first quarter, TJ Watt reached 100 sacks in his 109th career game, the second-fastest in NFL history next to Reggie White (96 games). With his 28th career forced fumble, passed his brother JJ, Von Miller and Clay Matthews, all had 27 in their careers, Miller still active. Watt now in a tie with Jevon Kearse and Simeon Rice for 32nd in NFL history in forced fumbles, adding another sack later moved his total to 101 career sacks, 59th all-time.

Weather delay

Even before it started to rain the field was cleared and then the stands were emptied due to lightning in the area.
It was then accompanied by blowing wind, along with the rain. The delay was 1:25 from the scheduled 8:20 start time.

Snoop Dogg

An avid Steelers fan, musical icon Snoop Dogg toured throughout Acrisure Stadium on Sunday, before the rain, meeting players, staff, fans, doing a few interviews. Basically, just being Snoop wearing head-to-toe Steelers gear.
