A lot of rumors are circulating following the untimely death of Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins.
CBS Miami reporter Trish Christakis tells the PM team that “as of right now, it is an open and ongoing investigation.”
Haskins was hit by a dump truck and killed early on Sunday morning while crossing Interstate I-595 in South Florida.
Christakis says a this time, police don’t know why he was trying to cross the west-bound lanes, only that he was trying to cross the road.
She adds the area where he was hit is right near the Fort Lauderdale Airport and there are several lanes of traffic that need to be crossed to reach the other side safely.
It has also been reported that he was walking on a ‘limited access road.”
That means it is a road that is not meant to be walked along and has very limited access for anyone to walk, if at all.
There have also been rumors that Haskins ran out of gas and that is why he got out of his car. Christakis says there is no confirmation that is the case and nothing is confirmed.
She adds that police haven’t even confirmed that Haskins had a vehicle at the scene.
Police have also not released any information concerning the driver of the truck that hit him or if he has been questioned or arrested.
Christakis says there is no timetable for learning any new information but with Haskins being such a high profile name, she is hoping something comes out by the end of the week.
A man who told NBC 6 in South Florida says he believes he saw Haskins crossing the road.
Chris Stanley says that he saw a man, believed to be Haskins, with his arms raised a bit “as he appeared to be drifting into the major highway.”
Stanley says he called 911 as he saw the man walking across the highway.
He also noted that he did not see a vehicle on the scene either that could’ve been Haskins’, but added he was paying more attention the man on the road.
